8 areas where schools will be closed on Monday because of elections

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced on Monday that elections in Kakamega and Mombasa counties will be held on the said date.

Members of the National Assembly seat elections will be held in Rongai, Kitui Rural, Pokot South, and Kacheliba.

Nyaki West ward in Meru County and Wanjenga Ward in Kiambu County will also be participating in the polls to elect their next members of the county assembly.

Magoha said schools will have to remain shut for the safety of learners.

Considering that schools act as polling stations and IEBC officials will be arriving at the centers on Monday evening, children will stay away from home beginning Monday.

The Education CS however asked the IEBC to relocate the tallying centers to tertiary institutions in the regions so that students taking their national examinations this year don’t have their studies disrupted.

CS Magoha also assured parents that their children would be safe during the period.

The IEBC is slated to hold gubernatorial polls in Kakamega and Mombasa counties.

Parliamentary polls will be held in Rongai, Kitui Rural, Pokot South, and Kacheliba.
