Conor McGregor’s next fight: 6 options for comeback bout after Dustin Poirier defeat

Published

on

Conor Mcgregor isn’t the most popular fighter in the world, but he’s a fighter everyone should at least take an interest in. He’s the youngest out of the 28 active UFC champions and has been referred to as the mixed martial arts equivalent of Michael Jordan. Recently the MMA fighter and movie director took some time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions about his future fight plans after defeating Dustin Poirier at UFC 200:

The Irishman lost consecutive fights for the first time in his UFC career on Saturday night, but claims he would have beaten Poirier if he hadn’t suffered the freak injury in the first round.

He won the lightweight title in late 2016 to become the first-ever simultaneous two-weight world champion but since lost three of his last four UFC bouts, and four of his last five fights if you include his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor will be desperate to get back in the win column when he returns, likely in 2022, and we’ve taken a look at some of the possible options for his return.

Conor Mcgregor would be considered an unlikely candidate to be involved in another major competitive struggle. The Dubliner has been a controversial figure in the world of mixed martial arts for almost a decade, and it is not often that a fighter with a chequered past is given a second chance to compete at the highest level. But with a win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 226, the 26-year-old Dubliner can put his unhappy career behind him and return to action with his feet firmly on the ground – if he can convince the UFC that he is worthy of a second crack at the light-heavyweight championship.

Barcelona set 2week deadline for $131m star to decide future amid Manchester United, Liverpool links

Dembele, who just has six months left on his current deal with Barcelona, has not signed an extension yet and will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January.

It is reported that Dembele’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, has been purposely delaying contract talks by asking for clarification about Dembele’s role at the club.

The Catalans suspect the former is looking to offer his client to the highest bidder.

However, Dembele has since struggled to live up to the price tag, mostly because of his injuries that have ruined his journey so far at Camp Nou.

Dembele, who came off the bench in Barcelona’s previous two fixtures, has so far played only three competitive matches for Barcelona this season and is yet to go on the scoring sheet.

Dembele is still just 24 and former Al-Sadd boss Xavi believes the player is still capable of big things and wants to help him rediscover his form.

The France national moved from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona at $131 million ahead of the 2017-18 season.
