KCSE 2020: List of top 10 students countrywide.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has released the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) results.

CS Magoha, speaking from Mtihani House on Monday, said the results were for 747,171 students who finally sat for their exams after nearly a year of uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The results were released a record 16 days after the papers were completed. The class of 2020 performed comparatively better than their counterparts from 2019.

A total of 893 candidates scored grade A plain in 2020 compared to the 627 candidates who got the same grade in 2019. At the same time, 143,140 students scored C+ and above in 2020, accounting for 19.0 percent compared to the 125, 747 students who attained similar grades in 2019.

Simiyu Robinson Wanjala of Murang’a High School leads the 2020 class with a mean grade of 87.334, closely followed by Wasonga Allan of Agoro Sare High School with a mean grade of 87.173.

Sharon Jepgeno from Kenya High School is the third student, with an average grade of 87.173.

Students who took the exams can check their results by texting their index numbers to the SMS code 20076. This year, 287 results have been canceled.

211 students, according to CS Magoha, had unauthorized materials, including writing on white shirts. 45 mobile phones were confiscated during the exam period.

Government reviews curfew hours in Kisumu and 12 other counties, restricts movement

The government has reviewed COVID-19 containment measures in 13 counties within the Lake Basin region following a spike in the infection rate.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the dusk to dawn curfew shall begin at 7pm and end at 4am in the counties of Busia, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Kericho, Bomet, Bungoma, Trans-Nzoia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa-Bay and Migori.

This takes effect from Friday, June 18, 2021.

The CS said the 13 counties have been declared a COVID-19 hotspot zone after registering a positivity rate of 21% against a national average of 9%.

Movement in and out of the region will remain restricted unless for emergency and essential purposes.

“Except for essential and emergency services, movement between the hotspot Zone and the rest of the country is strongly discouraged,” reads the statement.

All forms of physical gatherings including at places of worship in the 13 counties have also been suspended for a period of 30 days.

It has further been ordered that all funerals and interment ceremonies within the Hotspot Zone  be conducted within 72 hours of confirmation
of death.

The attendees for funerals within the Hotspot Zone are capped to a maximum of 50 persons while only 30 people will be allowed to attend weddings and any other traditional ceremonies.

“That the attendees, officiators, and facilitators of weddings, celebrations of marriage or traditional unions, ceremonies of rites of passage, and all other similar events or ceremonies is maintained at 30 persons in total until further notice,” read the statement.

Former Gem MP, Jakoyo Midiwo Is Dead

Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has died. The former MP passed on Monday evening at a Nairobi hospital after a long battle with illness.

The former law maker’s death comes only days after he lost his sister who is set to be buried on Saturday. He died while recieving treatment in a Nairobi Hospital according to information by the Orange Democratic Movement Director of Communications, Philip Etale. Etale made the announcement on his Twitter and asked Kenyans to pray for the family and friends of the politician.
