This story is not about racism, or how some people feel about other races. This is about how a country can come together and support a group of 46 players during a time where they were much divided. The country stands united in supporting its athletes and supporting its world ranking in organized sports. I’m sure you’ve heard about the recent events that took place in Hong Kong, Italy and France were some groups of athletes held protests against racism in sports. This is a memorial page for those athletes who sacrificed and still continue to fight for equality for everyone.
Other black and mixed-race sportsmen in the team have also been targeted online following the tournament loss – which has not gone unnoticed by famous faces.
And proving that the nasty trolls – who have been flooding the players’ timelines with disgusting racial slurs following England not securing the title – will not be tolerated, big names have encouraged others to stand up to the racists and to report the abuse on social media platforms in order to protect the sporting heroes.
Crowds flocked to the Piazza Del Popolo, where flares were lit and iconic tricolour flags were held high.
On their arrival in their homeland, Captain Giorgio Chiellini posed with the European Championship trophy while Roberto Mancini – looking dashing as ever – allowed himself a smile.
